The EU DSM Directive 2019/790 represents an ambitious and far-reaching harmonisation effort in the copyright field, with effects on the obligations of internet actors, the room allowed for unlicensed uses, and the principle of freedom of contract. Member States have time until 7 June 2021 to transpose the Directive into their own laws.
