Green, Sustainable & Eco Advertising in Germany – Legal Framework, Do’s and Don’ts

Green advertising in Germany can be very successful, but it also comes under legal scrutiny. Competitors and NGOs are regularly checking green, eco, carbon and sustainability claims on the market. If the factual foundation of a claim is found to be lacking, cease and desist letters often follow.

If your multi-national company is advertising or plans to advertise with green claims in Germany (and the EU), you should watch our recording from September 28,2021, in which our counsel Dr. Constantin Eikel discussed which kinds of advertising can be done and which should be avoided, gave a brief overview of the perception of the German consumer, using a few common claims as examples, and explained when a claim might be found to be misleading.
